About Arby’s

Arby’s is an American fast-food restaurant chain. Arby’s is owned by Inspire Brands, the renamed Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc. (ARG). ARG was renamed as the company took over the ownership of Buffalo Wild Wings on February 5, 2018.

Roark Capital Group acquired 81.5% of Arby’s Restaurant Group and now it wholly owns Inspire Brands. The Wendy’s Company had minor stakes of 18.5% in the Arby’s after Roark Capital acquisition. The stakes were reduced to 12.3% after they purchased Buffalo Wild Wings.

The headquarters are located in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Currently, there are 3,472 restaurants.

History of Arby’s

Arby’s was founded by Forrest and Leroy Raffel in Boardman, Ohio, on July 23, 1964. The owners thought that there is market potential for the fast-food other than hamburgers. They wanted to name it “Big Tex” but it was already used by an Akron business. So they came up with Arby’s based on R. B. which were initials for Raffel Brothers.

In 1970, the expansion of Arby’s took place at a rate of 50 stores per year. The family-owned business was sold to Royal Crown Cola Company for $18 million in 1976 and Leroy Raffel remained as CEO until his retirement three years later.

In 2008 Triarc Companies purchased Wendy’s and changed there name to Wendy’s/Arby’s group. In January 2011 it was announced that the company is selling their Arby’s side of the business to focus more on Wendy’s.

Arby’s negotiated a purchase of restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wing in November 2017 for $2.4 billion in cash. As a part of this acquisition, the parent was renamed from Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc. to Inspire Brands.
