History of Chick-fil-A

In 1961, Dan T. Cathy (CEO) found a new way of cooking. He found a pressure fryer that could cook the chicken sandwich in the same amount of time it took to cook a fast-food hamburger. After this discovery, he registered the name Chick-fil-A.

The first Chick-fil-A was opened in the food court of the Greenbriar Mall, in a suburb of Atlanta, in 1967. 

During the 1970s and early 1980s, they started to expand by opening in new locations in suburban malls’ food courts. They also opened freestanding location and they started to focus on stand-alone type units rather than food courts.

The company opened a three-story 5,000-square-foot restaurant in Manhattan in October 2015 and became the largest free-standing Chick-fil-A in the country at that time.

In December 2017, Chick-fil-A broke their tradition by opening on Sunday to prepare the meals for passengers left stranded due to power outage at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Also in January 2020  in Mobile, Alabama a Chick-fil-A franchise opened on Sunday to honor the birthday wish of the 14-year boy with cerebral palsy and autism.
