P. F. Chang’s China Bistro is an American Chinese-themed casual restaurant chain. It was founded in 1993 by Paul Fleming and Philip Chiang. On March 2, 2020, Chang’s was acquired by TriArtisan Capital Advisors. The headquarters of P. F. Chang’s is in Scottsdale, Arizona.
As of October 2017, P. F. Chang’s operates 208 restaurants in the United States and more than 100 restaurants in international markets under licensee agreements.
The name of the restaurant was derived from Paul Fleming (P. F.) and Philip Chiang (whose surname was simplified to Chang).
History of P. F. Chang’s
The first restaurant was opened at the Scottsdale Fashion Square in Scottsdale, Arizona.
P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. was formed in 1993 from the acquisition of the original four bistro restaurant. In 2010 “P.F. Chang’s China Bistro Home Menu” was introduced. This brand sold a group of frozen appetizers and meals under the license by Unilever.
Chang’s accepted an offer by Centerbridge Partners in 2012 under a deal that valued at $1.1 billion. “P.F. Chang’s China Bistro Home Menu” license was acquired by ConAgra Foods, Inc. from Unilever in August 2012.
In January 2020, P. F. Chang’s was in talks to be sold to TriArtisan Capital Partners and Paulson & Co. for approximately $700 million from its previous owner Centerbridge Partners.
