About Starbuck

Starbucks Corporation is an American coffee company and coffeehouse chain. Starbucks was founded in 1971 in Seattle, Washington. It was opened by three friends who met while they were studying together at the University of San Francisco. Jerry Baldwin, who was an English teacher, Zev Siegi, a History teacher and Gordon Bowker, a writer were inspired to sell high-quality coffee beans and equipment.

The founders landed on ‘Starbo’ as the name of the company but later they named it ‘Starbucks’.

The first Starbucks restaurant was opened in Seattle at 2000 Western Avenue from 1971–1976. Later it was moved to 1912 Pike Place. During the first year of operation, they purchased green coffee beans from Peet’s but later they starters to buy it directly from the growers.

In 1984, led by Jerry Baldwin they purchased Peet’s. In 1987, the original owners of Starbucks sold the chain to former manager, Howard Schultz. Starbucks opened its first locations outside Seattle at Waterfront Station in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Chicago, Illinois in the same year.

In July 2013, over 10% of in-store purchases were made on customer’s mobile devices using the Starbucks app. Starbucks is ranked 132nd on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by revenue as of 2018.
